Job Title:                     Allotment Officer                    

Reports To:                Services Manager            

Hours:                         32

Salary:                        £22,627-£24,491

Location:                    Swindon, Wiltshire

 

Purpose of the job: 

To provide a complete allotments service for the Parish Council's 650 plots across 14 allotment sites. Responsible for maintenance and safety of the allotment sites and proactively reduce the number of vacant plots on all sites. 

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintaining allotment databases to keep records up to date. Preparing the quarterly allotment site inspection sheets, preparing statistical reports and arranging meetings for the Allotment Working Group and provide information to finance for invoicing tenants. 
  • Assess applications for allotments. Issue Tenancy Agreements to new tenants and updating all appropriate databases. 
  • Monitor the condition of individual allotments and liaise with tenants
  • Resolve issues arising with and between tenants and assess applications for structures, animals, and other potentially contentious items in line with the Parish Guidelines. 
  • Restore abandoned or overgrown plots and improve the condition of poorly maintained let plots through formal written notification with all records being kept. 

Skills/ Minimum 

  • Experience in allotment management and administration. 
  • Experience in using all types of maintenance equipment. 
  • Excellent ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Emails and IT systems in general. 
  • Full clean driving licence. 
  • Inquisitive and technically minded
  • Willing and physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain. 
  • Experience of working directing with the public. 

Preferred

  • General mechanical repairs and repairs experience or qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience of repairs maintenance.
  • Machinery qualifications, knowledge and experience.
  • A recognised qualification in horticulture or related subject .
  • Trailer License useful.
