JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:                 Plant Manager

Location:                 Swindon

Salary:                     Up to £65,000. Up to 20% bonus.

Hours of Work:       40 hours per week to be worked flexibly in line with operational requirements (includes being available on-call)

Job purpose:

This role is to manage the ongoing engineering development and maintenance of a process plant at Swindon.  This will include directing the works of the Operations and Maintenance Team to ensure that the plant is maintained and operated to the highest possible performance, encompassing technical, financial, health, safety and environmental aspects. 

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • To take direction from the wider business as to the plant operational needs and develop from this the works needed and timelines required,
  • Plan, organise, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations (inc. Contractor management).
  • Lead the Operations Team by example, organising and managing people effectively to produce the necessary results including recruiting, managing and developing Operations Team staff,
  • Responsibility for production output, product quality and materials supply and sourcing, in accordance with defined standards and specifications,
  • Ensure that the plant is operated safely at all times.
  • Ensure all plant records are correct and up-to-date,
  • Establish and direct all work activities (including routine, preventative and unplanned maintenance, installation works, etc.) of the Operations Team, ensuring that work activities are delivered to an agreed timeline and quality standard,
  • Establish the need for and direct any engineering design, development and implementation of new and existing equipment, managing all aspects, including budgetary and safety, etc.
  • Direct the change management process for the plant, ensuring the system meets plant, regulatory and company requirements,
  • Organise, direct and participate safety assessments and meetings (e.g. Hazop and risk assessments) relating to plant modifications, additions etc., seeking external, third party validation or expertise where necessary,
  • Collect and analyse data on people, process and materials and compile necessary reports detailing performance, including Key Performance Indicators, regulatory compliance, etc.

Essential

  • Proven and significant work experience as a plant manager in a related field.
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
  • Proven ability to work and direct work safely, ensuring the safety of others and complying with all safety assessment requirements.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.
  • Proven ability to plan, organise, monitor and report the work activities of others.
  • Work flexibly in terms of working patterns, location, and reporting lines.
  • Work innovatively to provide solutions to particular challenges.
  • Proven technical expertise and ability to quickly learn the operation and equipment of new processes and equipment.
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources.
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills.

 

Desirable

  • Appropriate WAMITAB-certificate (training available if not available).
  • Ideally, Electrical, Instrumentation/Controls or Mechanical or Process qualifications (degree-level or above).
  • Ideally, Chartered Engineer status.
