Pay:                        £10.16 per hour 
Location:                Swindon centre

Key Accountabilities

  • Working to deadlines and delivering a high-quality standard in all areas of grounds maintenance.  
  • Work undertaken will be of a skilled nature and post holders would be expected to be proficient in the use of all equipment, plant and machinery and drive a wide range of vehicles.
  • To use own initiative on day-to-day activities within the overall guidelines set out by your supervisor.
  • To undertake general grounds maintenance duties which include driving mowers, using push mowers, strimmers, planting and trimming trees and shrubs, seeding, watering, feeding, weeding, herbicide application and snow clearing, construction and renovation.
  • General maintenance including the cleaning and safe use of hand tools, hydraulic ride on mowers or sweepers, power tools including hedge trimmers, strimmers, vacuums, blowers, push mowers (petrol, diesel, electric, rotary, cylinder and flymos). Basic mechanical knowledge of tools used.  Be able to guide other colleagues in the maintenance of the above.
  • Ensure parks and depot buildings are left safe and securely locked.
  • Ensure that any identified personal training needs are discussed with their immediate supervisor.
  • Read Risk assessments and safe systems of work, carrying out the instruction and guidance as listed.
  • Basic form filling/administration skills to record work accurately, vehicle logs and waste disposal tickets, read service plans, complete needle collection forms and any work-related documentation.
  • Have a good working knowledge of working safely within a public environment to include safe working around overhead and underground utility services.
 

Candidates must have substantial knowledge and experience in the following areas of business and will be required to provide evidence of this:

Minimum –

  • Experience in a horticultural/similar environment.
  • Experience in using all types of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Preferred –

Horticultural experience of qualification

  • Knowledge and experience of gardening/grounds maintenance.
  • Chainsaw licence, Horticultural training, knowledge/experience.
  • A relevant Amenity Horticultural qualification, NVQ2 or equivalent
  • Trailer Licence useful.
