Job Title:                              CNC Programmer / Setter

Reports To:                          Production Manager

Location:                              Hungerford, Berkshire

Days/Hours:                         6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm

Hours Per Week:                 39

Salary:                                  £40,000 per annum with shift allowance of 12% AM,  30% PM

                                                               

Purpose of the job: 

To write and maintain programs for CNC machines on-site in order to produce components to the required specification, safely, efficiently and accurately, to ensure production requirements are met. To assist CNC production ensuring specified output targets and quality are maintained. To train, coach and mentor CNC Setter/operators, specifically CNC Apprentice setters. 

 

Main duties & responsibilities:

 

Programing / Technology

  • Write, maintain and update CNC programs
  • Create programmes and production methods for new parts using the resources available
  • Assist with installation and programming of new and existing PLC controlled machinery
  • Undertake any changes to programmes to produce quality components to drawing limits/customer requirements
  • Take the initiative to make improvements to programming in order to reduce cost

 

Production

  • Competently set & operate CNC machines
  • Carry out inspection, including first-off inspection using gauges and measuring instruments
  • Drive team to achieve production and OEE targets
  • Assist in the cleaning, organisation and maintenance of the shop floor work environment
  • Promote and provide constant input into continuous improvement including 6S and LEAN initiatives

 

People

  • Promote a team environment
  • Provide training and development to CNC Setters and Operators
  • Coach and mentor CNC Apprentices

 

Qualifications / Skills

  • HNC / HND Level 4  - CNC or Manufacturing Engineering Qualification
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Experience of volume manufacturing (preferred)
  • Experience in PLC programming (FANUC preferred), CAM software (Alphacam preferred)
  • Ability to act independently
  • Communication skills
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Self-driven
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with MRP / ERP Systems (SAP Preferred)
