About the role
In this role you will ensure jointing activities on all electricity networks are installed in a safe and professional manner, to a high standard and in accordance with Sinewave’s RAMS.
Candidate Requirments:
- We need someone who is a self-starter with experience working with a DNO or IDNO
- Jointing qualifications (including recognised DNO/IDNO LV, LV Live, 11kV and/or 33kV cable jointing training)
- NVQ level 2 or City and Guilds 232 in Electrical Engineering
- The successful applicant will also need to hold a full UK Driving Licence with a maximum of 3 points
- CSCS Card (or affiliated),
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
- NRSWA qualification
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supervise the Jointers Mate at all times
- Recognise danger, suspend any work activities until safe and liaise with the appropriate person(s) to create a safe workplace
- Carry out and accurately record formal risk assessments of the workplace and brief staff appropriately
- Carry out works within the public adopted highway (having correct qualifications to do so)
- Review and understand work instructions prior to any work commencement either through plans, drawings and written or verbal communication
- Load and unload equipment from vehicles safely and securely
- Carry out works within confined spaces using established safety procedures
- Carry out ‘dead’ LV jointing works in accordance with safe working practices and in compliance with the adopting DNO’s codes of practice
- Carry out ‘live’ LV jointing works in accordance with safe working practices and in compliance with the adopting DNO’s codes of practice
- Carry out HV jointing works in accordance with safe working practices and in compliance with the adopting DNO’s codes of practice
- To assist the Engineer(s) as directed
- To excavate cable trenches and joint bays using hand held tools and equipment
- To ensure the jointing van is kept tidy and that replenishment of consumables is carried out as necessary
- To allow for entry into substations for jointing, installation and standby duties
The successful candidate will show the below competencies:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint etc
- Excellent communication, including ability to adapt communication styles and outstanding listening skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively as part of a team
- Have a thorough knowledge of cable jointing procedures (up to 132kV)
- Able to interpret mains records
- Good knowledge of Electricity Supply, Quality, Continuity Regulations
- Excellent understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations
- Strong understanding of COSHH
- Strong attention to detail and timekeeping ability
- Confident and able to demonstrate safe use of hydraulically operated plant and equipment
