Job Title:                                            Buyer     

Vacancy:                                             on-going contract, Full time

Reports To:                                        Senior Buyer

Location:                                            Hungerford, Berkshire

Days/Hours:                                       Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm

Hours Per Week:                               37.5

Rate:                                                   £11.00 - £13.00                                                         

Purpose of the job: 

Working within your allocated value stream, to assess, qualify and on-board potential and existing suppliers; Solve supplier-related quality, delivery and cost issues, drive continual improvement and develop supplier partnerships.

Ensure supplier-related procedures and practices are in line with Global Purchasing guidelines

 

Main duties & responsibilities:

Supplier Management

  • Monitor vendor rating system based on delivery, quality, pricing, responsiveness and criticality
  • Supplier monitoring and feedback including audits in conjunction with quality) and improvement plans
  • Joint ventures with suppliers to aid VA/VE on components
  • Drive supplier on-time deliveries and supplier quality performance in line with non-forecast demand
  • Identify new suppliers, agree on terms and negotiate supply agreements & contracts

Cost Efficiency

  • Develop and implement cost-saving) plans
  • Effectively control a direct spend budget for commodities
  • Actively participate in the continual improvement of purchasing methods and drive down external spend
  • Maximise Kanban & Consignment methodology to increase quality and efficiency
  • Proactively assist with regulatory and company requirements for  stock checks
  • Maintain accurate procurement conditions and other ERP information in a timely manner
  • Monitor usage trends and known estimated future sales to minimise stock holding & obsolescence
  • Assist in resolving goods inwards discrepancies

Supply Chain

  • Order placement and/or approval and  MRP data management
  • Liaise with production staff and other internal parties
  • Present updates on new product introduction tasks, or other project requirements
  • Monitor new trends and regulations in the business and market place

Qualifications / Skills

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent in purchasing or supply chain (preferred)or equivalent experience
  • CIPS Level 4 or APICS
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Experience of volume manufacturing (preferred)
  • Teamwork
  • Communication skills
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with MRP / ERP Systems
